AUXPAD program to promote paddlecraft safety
Here's how to get started with your training:

PQS for Operators and Instructors

Operator Afloat Requirements
Qualification Code: PDLO
1)
Physical Fitness Assessment 

Complete a 5-mile paddle trip in 3 hours
2) 
Basic Qualified 

Complete the Auxiliary core training requirements and a boating safety course
3) 
Navigation Rules Test 

Pass the open book CGAux Navigation Rules Test
4) 
Operate a VHF-FM Marine radio 

Boat Crew Member Task # BCM-05-01-AUX
5) 
Give a Position or Operations Normal Report by VHF 

Boat Crew Member Task # BCM-05-02-AUX
6) 
GPS Waypoint Navigation 

Demonstrate the ability to navigate to a waypoint using a handheld GPS or mobile phone with marine charting application
7) 
Required ACA Skills Courses 

Level 1: Introduction to Kayaking
Level 2: Essentials of Kayak Touring or Sit on Top Kayaking
8) 
Currency Maintenance 

Annually demonstrate proficiency in Level 1 and 2 ACA skills.

Required ACA Instructor Course 

Level 2: Essentials of Kayak Touring or Sit On Top Kayaking, which includes currency in CPR, First Aid and membership in the ACA Safety Education and Instruction Council.

For the requirements regarding marine radio usage and navigation, please touch base with any Qualified Examiner (QE) in your area.  They can get you started on the instructional material and sign off on completed tasks.
